THE REGULARS
DANNY - When 16 To Midnight started Danny was 17. He was once a brilliant, almost genius teenager but a freak skateboarding accident robbed him of this. He has since had to relearn everything. He looks at the world with the innocence of a child. He is earnest and determined. He can be holding up to 5 jobs at any one time to help his mother out of her "situation" but never holds them long because he's under the impression that when you leave on Friday, you can't come back. He is enviably free of the constraints of normal human stress and has gotten more out of his short life than most people do in 80 years.
LIBERTY BARNABUS - An English specialist who is cursed with a speech impediment that he doesn't seem to notice. He is the host of Consonants and Vowels a weekly radio show in which the audience sends him words and phrases they want to know how to use properly. What Liberty doesn't realize is that the audience thinks he talks so funny that they send him words and phrases that they just want to hear him say. Liberty is very eccentric and perhaps a slight bit crazy.
BOOBY SHALOT - Liberty's right hand man. While in the joke he never lets Liberty know that the audience is making fun of him. He likes Liberty a great deal but can't help but laugh at Liberty's quirks and eccentricities.
THE ROULOCKS - Husband and wife, Ingvar and Ester Roulock are not human. They're trying desperately to be so but are happy just having each other. It is never clear exactly what type of creatures they are . They have a unique perspective on human life .
JOEY CALGON - Joey is a hopeless standup comic who dreams of one day going professional. He spends most of his time in his basement with a laugh track, honing his art. His jokes have a certain Zen quality and seem to be really amusing to him.
LARRY FOX & GALE GARRISON - Larry Fox is the host of Jazz Migrane on public radio. His constant guest is jazz great Gale Garrison. Together the two sit and talk jazz, name drop and chat endlessly in their husky, smoky voices.
THE WATER COOLER GUYS - Bob and Guy work in an office in Chicago. It's never clear exactly what they do except work on the ever present Colby Account. Their greatest pleasure is standing around talking at the water cooler talking about work.
THE UNSEEN CHARACTERS
The unseen characters never appear in the series but they have influence on the destinies of many of the regulars.
MICHAEL MULANEY - It is not certain who Michael is or what he does but Eric refers to him once as his therapist.
WALLY - Bob and Guy's boss who keeps them working on the Colby Account. He is perpetually on vacation .
SETH HARRIS - Seth is the most mysterious of all characters. He exists in a place that's not real. He exists at a placid lake in the mind of the characters where they all go when they mediate. The characters know when its time to leave because Seth Harris, who walks around carrying a double bass, will approach them and say "now serving number eight." His true nature has not yet been discovered.
