Boundary Waters Media  (Featured Artist)
(appearing on Live365.com Featured Broadcast page Sept.                                          8-15 2000)

Boundary Waters Media is a loose collective of kooky comedy writers and performers based in Aurora, IL, Geneva, IL and Austin, TX. Collaborating via the Internet, the BWM crew weaves surreal Negativland-like sequences with SNL-style, deadpan fake ads and an interesting panoply of musical selections.

BWM updates their station weekly, with a rotating program schedule that changes daily.

According to BWM's Eric Schwartz, the group is a collective. A Borgian unit, if you will. Which explains why he answered my questions in the third person...

Live365.com: So who all is involved in Boundary Waters Radio?

BWR: The voices you hear are Eric Schwartz, Steve Lord, Dale Roe,
Dan Neid, Mo Gannon, Kris Keef, Millie Schwartz

Live365.com: How many people work on the station?

BWR: The Boundary Waters Media Complex is comprised of a series of
dens and family rooms in Illinois and Texas. The actual broadcast
is uploaded at Studio A (Eric and Millie's Den in Aurora IL). This is
also where the majority of the production goes on. Steve Lord
produces Steve Lord's Mid-Life Crisis at Studio C which also is
his...family room in Geneva IL Production also goes on at
          Roehenge Studios in Austin Texas.

Live365.com: Who does the writing? I love the writing. It's intelligent and
                       doesn't
always rely on gross stuff. Which is funny, too,
sometimes, but I just about cried during that Moby
                       Dick sketch.

BWR: Gag Reflex Comedy Theater of The Air is written by Lord, Keef,
Gannon, Schwartz, Neid, Schwartz and Roe. Steve Lord's Mid
Life-Crisis is written by Steve. 16 to Midnight is written and
performed by Neid and Schwartz. We have some new shows
hopefully debuting later this year, written by many of the same
people. Everybody involved with Gag Reflex and all the other
BWM productions writes. We're all addicted to the spark of creation.

Live365.com: Who does the sound effects?

BWR:  We get the sound effects from our vast collection of 4 CD's. Eric does
everything else in his den. Gag is currently working on an album
called 101 Totally Useless Sound Effects. There is an excerpt running
in the BWR rotation. The  album will include sounds like "Ointment"
           and "Checking In On Sylvia"

Live365.com: What's your writing/comedy background?

BWR: Gag has been writing and performing together for over 7  years now.
Prior to that Eric wrote with the comedy group Strange's and Dale
wrote for Slapstick! Put us all together and we have nearly 75 years
          of comic experience.

Live365.com: Do you all have day jobs?

BWR: OH YES. In this group we have journalists, graphic designers,
marketing people, techies, freelance video people,  moms, dads,
cosmetics specialists. Boundary Waters Media is only open
           between 5pm and Midnight.

Live365.com: Where do you want to go with this?

BWR:  Obviously we'd all like to be getting paid for this. Along with Boundary
Waters Radio and its productions we also  perform live regularly,
we are trying to get our own theater and just live day to day.
Kissing butt here a little bit, Live365  has provided another great
stage to perform on and its allowed us to expand as artists.
There's a lot of original music  we play here that would never
see the light of day at a Gag show. Dan and Eric
recorded 16 to Midnight over the  course of the last 7 years and
it's finally given us a chance to play it. We're realistic. At
this moment in, time Internet  Radio isn't making anybody rich.
But the future is wide open. Might as well put your foot in.

Live365.com: Why do you broadcast using Live365?

BWR:  It's such a friendly atmosphere. 16 thousand hams getting their voices
out there. That's great. Even if they're just  trying to introduce their
favorite band to new people or are shooting their creative wad
             like us...it's all good.
