CHARACTERS
ROBERT "SMILES" JOHNSON:
At 49 years old former police detective Robert "Smiles" Johnson owns and operates Big City Eyes Investigations. He is unmarried and doesn't seem to be looking. He is the sone of City Councilman Frank Johnson (deceased) who he was estranged from. His sister, Gina Johnson, went missing 8 years ago after being abducted by mob boss Nick Manzetti. The warehouse the two were holed up in exploded and while female remains were recovered, it was not possible to positively ID the remains. Manzetti was never found. After months of trying to investigate what happened to his sister and being stonewalled by city officials, Robert suffered a nervous breakdown, was hospitalized and eventually quit the force.
ADAM "STACK FURY" FORRAY:
Stack is 40 years old. He has been a detective for 17 years.His former partner, Smiles, nicknamed him Stack because of Adam?s habit of sitting around stacking things absent-mindedly, forever making little towers out of things while he concentrates on a problem. During the 5 years that he and Smiles were partners, Stack had fallen in love and become engaged to Smiles' sister. After the botched raid when Gina Johnson was believed killed, Stack withdrew into himself. He has become a deep thinker, but he's obsessed with winning. He never wants to lose another crook. His quiet reasoning and tunnel vision makes him a threat to those he's after, but it has cost him some friends. Several years of therapy has allowed him to control his temper. After Smiles eventually quit, the department put him with a new half-elf detective named John D?yen.
JOHN "NEEDLESS ACTION" D'YEN:
John D'yen lives to be a cop. His clear vision of right and wrong and his willingness to throw himself into the fray earned him the nickname Needless Action in the academy. The son of an elf father and a human mother John constantly found himself at odds with those around him. He never seemed to find a place to belong. His older brother, Edward, was also a cop, who, because of his mixed heritage, was never seemed to advance. He gave in to corruption and became an informant for Manzetti's mob. His mob involvement eventually cost him his life. John, furious and out for revenge, ran his own investigation while still in uniform. The outcry from Elf leaders and John's personal investigation forced the city to promote him to Detective. He has been partners with Stack for nearly 7 years. He is now 33.
LAURA MEDRANO:
Laura is 29 years old and an investigative journalist for the Big City Herald. She fell in with this group several years ago while investigating a story. The circumstances of the situation led her and Charlie to become more than friends. She now finds herself increasingly at odds with her profession. Since becoming part of "the fight" she wants less and less to be an observer. She knows that her personal motivations have shifted but she still feels that her place is with the paper, giving her a vantage point that Smiles, Stack, Needless and Charlie don't have.
CHARLIE PICKENS:
At 25 Charlie is the youngster of the group. Reckless, passionate and bright, Charlie has trouble finding his place in the group. Charlie became a private investigator five years ago when he was hired as an operative for Big City Eyes Investigations. Charlie grew up in an orphanage and never knew his parents. He hopes that his job will one day allow him to find his parents. He feels very attached to Smiles and of course Laura, his first real love. Though he doesn't think much about it, Charlie has the ability to find himself in a moment, pull from that moment every possible outcome. This has only happened to him a few times and it seemed moments of incredible stress. Charlie is also unaware that he is ever under the watchful, curiously green eyes of The Watcher. Charlie thinks that this Watcher's protection is simply great luck.
THE WATCHER:
This strange old man with the glimmering green eyes has watched Charlie from afar since he was an infant. Little is known about him or his background, other than he vowed an unbreakable oath to protect Charlie. Over 25 years he has come to love Charlie as a son. While he has pledged to protect Charlie, he knows the value of the lessons his charge is learning working with Smiles and the others and he knows that sometimes those lessons lead Charlie into danger.
CAPT. DENNIS BREEN:
Stack and Needless' (And Smiles' former) commanding officer. While a friend to the detectives, he often finds himself standing between city officials and his men. He sees his place as being a support system, while keeping his detectives focused.
