FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT: Eric Schwartz, (630) 896-3698, of Steve Lord, (630) 232-7683 GAG REFLEX, COMEDIAN DAVID LEE COMBINE FORCES AT THE HOUSE DEKALB, Ill. - Gag Reflex Comedy Theater and comedian David Lee will present a night of laughter and music here. The 9-year-old sketch comedy and music group, based in the western suburbs of Chicago, and the 20-year-old Asian comedian from Franklin Park, Ill., will share the stage beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at The House, East Third Street and Lincoln Highway in downtown DeKalb. Tickets are only $3 and are available at the door. Gag Reflex will feature the music side of its repertoire, drawing on songs from throughout the group's 9-year tenure as the funniest comedy group in the Chicago suburbs. From food to technology to sex to current events, the group showcases its musical talents in a combination of original songs and song parodies. "We feel we weave humor and musicianship into a fine artistic fabric," said Eric Schwartz, Gag Reflex director. "At the very least, we prove that acoustic guitar and the trombone really can go together." David Lee mixes the craziness of college life - he is a student at Northern Illinois University - with the unique challenges he faces as an Asian American. He calls his act, Smaller and Yellower. "My stand up makes fun of a lot of the Asian stereotypes that almost all Asian Americans face," he said. "I wouldnąt call my style raw and raunchy; it's just a bit lower than that." The show marks a return to The House stage for Gag Reflex, who performed a combination of music and sketches last month there at the end of the tour of their latest show, The Viagra Monologues: (or, Set Your Pfizers on Stun). Besides performing live, the group has established itself with recordings and on the Internet. Its 1999 CD release, It's a Sick World, Betty, features the group's music, and an upcoming new CD will feature the group's live act. Group members also produce an Internet radio show, Gag Reflex Comedy Theater of the Air, available on Boundary Waters Radio on live365.com. Newspapers as diverse as the Chicago Sun-Times, the Copley Press and the Northern Star have praised the group. The Chicago Tribune once said, "What they do is unmistakable; they make people laugh."
